Organic Clothing Company Frugi Awarded Beacon Status

Frugi Organic Children's Clothing
Frugi, the organic clothing company is celebrating their recent prestigious achievement of ‘Beacon Company’ status. It’s the first children’s clothing company to receive the accolade, having demonstrated outstanding achievement and significant performance. Lucy Jewson, co-founder, is also featured in Saturday Telegraph Magazine’s Eco Hero piece.

Following a rigorous and in depth validation assessment, Frugi is upheld as one of the south west’s most forward-thinking and ambitious companies. Particular strengths of the family owned company include export, fair trade sourcing, marketing and offshore manufacturing.

Launched in 2004 Frugi began in the Jewson’s cottage spare bedroom, inspired by a lack of organic baby clothing which would fit comfortably over cloth nappies. The company has always upheld a strong green business ethos and has grown from a team of two to a staff of 20, with a turnover of £1.8 million. Frugi has also collected a host of business enterprise awards including reader voted Observer Ethical Awards shortlist, and many award accolades from national parenting magazines.

“It’s an exciting time for Frugi and with our company expanding we’ll be able to reinvest in the business providing enduring growth, jobs and organic products consumers want,” reports Lucy Jewson. “Being part of this network is a great opportunity for us too.”

Frugi has successfully created a unique business model, ensuring that it keeps the customer at the heart of what it creates, with lively social media communities providing product ideas and feedback. Frugi’s organic cotton clothes from newborn to eight years old are designed ‘cleverly’ so that they are comfortable, versatile and long lasting, giving the customer a quality product and value for money, ethically. 1% of Frugi’s turnover is also donated to two grassroots environmental charities.

Sue Baker, Beacon South West Project Director, says, “Frugi has implemented a number of pioneering and sustainable business practices which sets the company apart from others in the region. It’s commitment to the environment has been widely commended and we are delighted to welcome them into the Beacon South West network.”

Beacon South West brings together more that 230 of the regions inspiring and innovative high- growth companies developing partnerships, sharing ideas and increasing business performance. Frugi is proud to be included in this elite group striving to bring more opportunities to Cornwall.
